She thought that if she showed Nanami Chiaki - the class representative, and therefore, a symbol of 'hope' for the class - going through obstacles and try to overcome despair and then hopelessly die anyway? She would be able to break everyone, since the only tie that brought everyone together... was Nanami, I'd believe. Though I think that her death was just icing on the cake.
